About Me
Background
My name is Jen VanderVegt. I am
the teacher and license holder at Discoveries Preschool. I opened Discoveries
in 2009. Prior to running my in-home preschool, I taught second grade
for three years in Brooklyn Center.
My passion is working with kids. Every job I have had in the past involves kids and I can't see myself doing anything else. Some of these jobs include numerous babysitting jobs, being a summer camp counselor, tutoring, working at a daycare center, and teaching summer school. I also volunteered to teach Sunday School and was a mentor to a little girl during college.
My Family
I am married to an amazing man named Justin. The preschool kids adore him and love it whenever he comes downstairs. We have three kids; Isabella, Camden and Nolan. Isabella graduated from Mankato State last May and is now living in Nashville, Camden is in 12th grade, and Nolan is in 6th grade. We have two cats who love to visit the preschool kids. We are a very active family and love to be outside biking, rollerblading, camping, and spending time on the water. We also enjoy playing games, doing projects, and having family nights.
My Spare Time
In my spare time I like to be outside, hang out with family and friends, and do projects around the house. My three kids have also kept me busy. I was the leader of my oldest son's Cub Scout den for four years and the leader of my daughter's Girl Scout troop for five years. I was in the family cast of Annie and Cinderella with my youngest son and am now a rehearsal assistant with his play company, Centerstage Children's Theather.
